David Glen Tullberg.
Memorial services for David Glen Tullberg, 62, of Kilgore were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Kilgore, TX with Father Kevin Wittmayer officiating. The family received friends immediately following the service. David passed away on Friday, December 21, 2018, at Good Shepherd hospital in Longview.
David was born on April 5, 1956, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He is the son of Roland Tullberg and Joan Ekstrand Tullberg. David graduated from Solon High School in Solon, Iowa, and graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Music degree. He started his teaching career at Lufkin High School as Assistant High School Band Director. David then continued his career at the University of Louisville as Marching Band Director where he also received his Master’s in Music. He came back to Texas and took a High School Band Director position at West Rusk High School then a Middle School position at Chapel Hill. He pursued a Master’s in Education from Stephen F. Austin University for his Mid-Management Certificate.
David had a real passion for music. He enjoyed playing the trumpet, guitar, and percussion. He was a past member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Kilgore and current member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Longview. David was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Iowa Hawkeye football fan. He was a loving husband, wonderful father, son, brother, and friend. David enjoyed the time he spent with his family and many students. He was a loving and giving friend to all those that knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sallie Avera-Tullberg of Kilgore; daughter, Jessica Tullberg (Kendrick Brown) of Kilgore; grandson, Ian Brown of Kilgore; father, Roland Tullberg of Maryville, MO; siblings, Linda Thomas (Greg) of Council Bluff, IA; Roger Tullberg (Liz) of Indian Hills, CO; Kevin Tullberg (Michelle) of Brooklyn Park, MN; Karen Mahany of Wheat Ridge, CO; several nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Tullberg, son, Mark David Tullberg and brother-in-law Patrick Mahany.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Kilgore, 724 Harris Street, Kilgore, Texas 75662.
