Larry Wolf

Larry Wolf was born on December 24, 1939 in Blanco County TX, and died January 3, 2022 in San Antonio. He was Papa Bear to many, Uncle Larry and Grandpa to family, and Mr. Wolf to several generations of students and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Erna Wolf; his wife Allie and second wife Dottie. He is survived by his two children, Catt Lisa (Leslie) and Steven (Charlotte); his grandchildren, Sean Wolf, Sheldon Wolf, Shadare Pineda (Bob), Jade Neal, and John Neal (Brianna); and 4 great-grandchildren.

He took to music in high school, and continued this passion throughout his life even after his retirement as Band Director from Cuero ISD in 1996. He was often heard saying, “Tell me your last name and instrument” which would usually produce a funny story or anecdote from his many years in front of the Junior High and High School bands. He also directed the choir at First United Methodist Church in Cuero for nearly as many decades as his time as Band Director. He sang with numerous men’s groups in Cuero churches, and the Victoria Civic Chorus with his beloved wife Allie.

He married Allie Goodson on August 25, 1962, and shared 39 wonderful years with her until her death in 2001. Along with Lisa and Steven, they were often found singing as a quartet in the Methodist Church.  He later married Dottie Tumlinson on May 2, 2003, and shared 16 years until her death in 2019.

Larry was an avid fisherman and prolific woodworker, leaving his mark on hearts and homes throughout Cuero. He was often seen having breakfast out; his favorite time of day to have a cup of coffee and chat with friends. Larry was always one to lend an empathetic ear, a quick hug, or a snarky joke, just to see you smile. His reach is much longer than he will ever measure.

He will be missed by so very many.

Larry will lie in state beginning at 11:30 am on Monday, January 10, 2022 at Freund Funeral Home.  Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 pm.  A memorial service will be planned at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please make any memorial contributions to The Larry Wolf Memorial Fund at Trust Texas Bank or The Cuero Sportsman Club.
