Canyon ISD and the Canyon High School feeder pattern are seeking qualified energetic, enthusiastic applicants for an associate band director position. This position will serve as lead for the Canyon Junior High Band, instruct beginner classes in line with the candidate’s specialty, and assist with the high school band, ideally as the lead instructor/coordinator for the visual caption of the marching band. A specialty in brass and experience in DCI are preferred qualifications; however, we will consider all qualified applicants.

The Canyon High School feeder pattern has experienced tremendous success in group and individual competitions through TMEA, UIL, and ATSSB. The Canyon Junior High Honors Band has been a TMEA Honor Band finalist. The Canyon High School Band is a consistent UIL State Marching Band Finalist and has regularly advanced to the state level in TMEA Honor Band and ATSSB Outstanding Performance series. In addition, the CHS Band tied for the most students earning a chair in an ATSSB All-State Band.

Canyon ISD is very proud of their tremendous Fine Arts programs and the support that is offered at the campus and district level. The position is for the McDowell Middle School Head Band Director/ High School Assistant. McDowell is a 2C Middle School that feeds a 3A High School. Hondo is a rural school district located 35-45 minutes West of San Antonio. We compete in ATSSB Region 11, UIL Region 11/3A AREA E (South Texas). The Middle School Head Director will assist the High School on a daily basis (1st Period) and help at all HS Marching Rehearsals, HS Football Games, and Marching Band Contests on Saturdays. All Band classes at the Middle School are team taught and beginners are split homogeneously.

The Hondo Band program earns consistent sweepstakes at both the Middle School and High School levels. The marching band is a 9 time State Qualifier with recent TSMBC trips in 2020, 2021, and 2023.

The Preferred Candidate will consist of:
Organized team player who is willing to put in hard work to grow the program.
Woodwind or Brass specialist preferred, but all candidates will be considered.
Possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL Class-B) or have the ability to get one. HISD Band Directors drive Buses to games and contests.
Possess at least a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from an Accredited University
